Waste Management Rolls Out FREE Recycling to Apartments in Lancaster
New Program Helps City Meet State Recycling Mandate and Helps Apartment Complex Owners Save Money
Lancaster, CA, November 2nd, 2007 – Waste Management is proud to announce that the company is rolling out free recycling to multifamily apartment complexes in Lancaster.
Like all cities and counties in California, the City of Lancaster is required by the State of California to divert 50% of the City’s waste from the landfill.
In order to comply with the mandate, Waste Management has introduced a brand new multifamily recycling program in the City of Lancaster. The program is free and it gives families living at several multifamily complexes throughout the Valley a convenient way to do their part and recycle.
“The success of recycling depends on participation. A free recycling program offers an affordable and easy way to protect our environment and ensure the well being of our community. The new program is not only free, but folks may actually end up paying less for their trash service based on how much they recycle,” said Bill Minnis, Director of Operations for Waste Management.
A major portion of the City’s solid waste comes from multi-family and apartment complexes.
Apartment resident Kara Cowan said the bins have come in handy: "I didn't recycle before, but this has worked out great for me," Cowan said. "I hardly ever have to take out the trash anymore.” Cowan continues, “almost everything I used to throw away goes right in the big white bin."
You can watch more than two and half hours of TV using the energy saved from recycling one aluminum can.
Free recycling is available to all multifamily complexes within the City of Lancaster. Recycling means less trash is generated by a building, which can save money for building owners. The fewer refuse pickups, the less money WM customers pay.
If your complex wants to sign up for free recycling, please have the owner of your building contact Waste Management’s Recycling Manager, Lisa Hemenway, at (661) 223-3411 for more information.
Waste Management of the Antelope Valley operates both the Palmdale and Lancaster Landfills as an integral part of the Valley’s solid waste management infrastructure. The facilities handle municipal solid waste, which is heavily regulated, monitored and controlled by local, state and federal government agencies. In addition to its community contributions and significant volunteer efforts, Waste Management of the Antelope Valley provides residential, commercial, construction and recycling services.
