WASTE MANAGEMENT PROUD TO BE PARTNER WITH LARRY CHIMBOLE - INSPIRATION FOR NEW LEAGUE OF CA CITIES PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD

Palmdale, CA, October 15, 2007 – Waste Management is pleased to be working with Larry Chimbole, the namesake for the League of California Cities’ new Larry Chimbole Public Service Award.

League of California Cities officials announced that the 2007 Larry Chimbole Public Service Award Dinner is to be held on Thursday, October 25th at the Whisky Creek Restaurant in Bishop, California. The reception will be held at 6:00 PM, with a dinner to follow at 6:30 PM and is being hosted by the Desert Mountain Division of the League of California Cities.

“Larry has been working with Waste Management for 18 years”, said Bill Minnis, Director of Operations. “I know he’s honored that the League would name an award after him – we’re just honored that he works with us.”

Larry Chimbole was honored by the Desert Mountain Division of the League of California Cities, as the first recipient of the award in 2006.

“I am so humbled to be recognized by the League of California Cities – truly, a distinguished organization,” said Chimbole. “I was proud to help with the formation of the Desert Mountain Division, and now they have named an award after me. It’s wonderful!”

The League of California Cities’ Desert Mountain Division’s goal is “restoring and protecting local control for cities through education and advocacy in order to enhance he quality of life for all Californians.” The Desert Mountain Division is comprised of 15 cities, including Lancaster, Palmdale.

Chimbole, along with the “50 Grand Men” helped incorporate the City of Palmdale and was the city’s first mayor, seated in August 1962. He has been very active in his community over the past 40 years, including serving as AV Fair Director, President of the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce, President of the Palmdale Kiwanis Club, President of the California Contract Cities Association, campaign chairman for the AV Region of the United Way, and the author of Palmdale – First City of Antelope Valley.
