STARTING TODAY, KIDS TOTALLY “TRASH OUT” WITH
WASTE MANAGEMENT OF ANTELOPE VALLEY!

Palmdale, CA, October 10, 2007 – Waste Management of Antelope Valley is pleased to announce that Total Trash Out XVI started TODAY. The aluminum can drive contest runs through Halloween, October 31st.

Waste Management is proud to partner with local elementary and middle schools, both public and private, to give them an opportunity to raise much-needed money for supplies and activities through Total Trash Out XVI. During the three-week event, students can bring aluminum cans for recycling to school.

“Total Trash Out is an important part of WM’s partnership with the community and with area schools. We enjoy going to schools and educating the students and their teachers about recycling and the environment,” said Lisa Hemenway, Recycling Compliance Manager for Waste Management of the Antelope Valley.

Hemenway continued, “It’s not just about collecting a can, but why it is important to keep these recyclable items out of the landfill.”

In addition to WM sponsorship, WM’s recycling robot “Cycler” attends the assemblies and has a lot of fun with the kids.

Each school must sign up to officially be a participant in Total Trash Out. There are currently 38 schools participating.

“Some of the students, – and their families - save their cans all year knowing this event is coming,” said Janette Crawford, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management. “They are very serious about winning the prizes, not only for themselves, but for their school. We have had a few defending champs win the top prize multiple years in a row!”

Total Trash Out offers fun and exciting prizes for individual students, classrooms and the entire school. Some of the prizes include: sports balls for recess, recycling containers for classrooms, and school supplies.
