Press Release
Come Learn “Everything You Wanted to Know About Trash - But Were Afraid to Ask” on September 12
Lancaster, CA, September 7, 2007 - Waste Management and the Antelope Valley Chambers of Commerce is proud to announce that Mike Williams, Project Manager for Waste Management, will be the luncheon speaker for the Chambers’ monthly luncheon at the Hellenic Center on Wednesday, September 12th at 11:30 am.
Mike will be talking trash – and about all aspects of the issue, from where our trash in the Antelope Valley goes, to the challenges facing LA County as it generates more than 40,000 tons of trash countywide per day.
By the time you leave this meeting, you will be an expert on trash!
“I am excited that we are doing a program like this for our residents and business owners,” said Janette Crawford, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management. “There is a lot to learn about the County’s waste management system and we will talk about all of it – or as much as we can in an hour!”
Trash and recycling service in the Antelope Valley is made just a bit more confusing because the Cities of Lancaster and Palmdale, as well as the residents in the unincorporated area of the County of Los Angeles, all have different contracts that govern trash and recycling services.
“Depending on where you live, you could be across the street from someone that has different trash and recycling services than you have,” continued Crawford.
“This session should go a long way towards helping folks have a better understanding about what we do and why,” said Bill Minnis, Director of Operations for Waste Management.
The event will be held at the Hellenic Center located on 30th Street West and K-4. Cost for the luncheon is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members. Please call the AV Chamber office at 661-948-4518 to reserve your seat.
Waste Management of the Antelope Valley operates both the Palmdale and Lancaster Landfills as an integral part of the Valley’s solid waste management infrastructure. The facilities handle municipal solid waste, which is heavily regulated, monitored and controlled by local, state and federal government agencies. In addition to its community contributions and significant volunteer efforts, Waste Management of the Antelope Valley provides residential, commercial, construction and recycling services.
