Current Project
Landfill Consolidation
The Lancaster Landfill and Recycling Center is currently only permitted to take 1,700 tons of waste a day. This is less than adequate to meet the growing daily needs of Lancaster and the surrounding community. On many days, trucks are turned away because the permitted daily limit has been reached. Waste Management has asked Los Angeles County for a permit to allow more loads per day in order to prevent gridlock and accommodate the continued growth of our community.
The easiest way to minimize waste volume is to prevent trash from being thrown out in the first place, and Waste Management takes pride in the breadth of our recycling programs. Residential curbside recycling services, the most consumer-friendly approach to recycling, has been instituted in all of Lancaster for several years. Total Trash Out, the school -based recycling program, is a fixture in Lancaster. Educational programs such as children’s contests and outreach campaigns target the youth and adults of the Antelope Valley. Waste Management’s recycling information booth is a fixture at Lancaster and greater Antelope Valley community events.
