Waste Management Announces Local Christmas Tree Recycling Up by 18%
Antelope Valley's 2004 Christmas Tree Recycling Program is a Major Success
ANTELOPE VALLEY, Calif. February 1, 2005 – Thanks to the residents of Antelope Valley, Waste Management’s Christmas tree recycling effort was a huge success. In just two weeks, Waste Management collected over 19,000 Christmas trees, an 18% increase from last year’s collection efforts. The Antelope Valley community was able to turn 190 tons of discarded Christmas trees into mulch and top soil. More importantly, we kept Antelope Valley's Christmas trees out of our landfills and helped to conserve our natural resources.
Waste Management, an Antelope Valley service provider for 35 years, has been proactive in developing “green” initiatives, like the Christmas tree recycling program, to promote recycling and encourage neighborhood involvement.
"It is gratifying to know that our Christmas tree recycling efforts paid off. Residents were aware of the recycling program through several advertisements, and we appreciate everyone that participated in the program" said Lisa Hemenway, Recycling Compliance Manager for Waste Management of Antelope Valley.
Waste Management's next big recycling initiative in the Antelope Valley is Total Trash Out XIV, a school-based recycling contest that kicks off April 13th. For more information about Waste Management of Antelope Valley and its programs, visit our website at www.KeepingAVclean.com.
