Waste Management Offers Local Cities an Opportunity to Recognize Community Leaders
Call goes out to City leadership to select honorees for annual citizenship prize
January 5, 2005, Los Angeles – It's time, again, to take a few minutes to nominate that special person or organization that has worked hard all year long (during 2004) for the Waste Management second annual Community Involvement Awards.
In an effort to encourage local municipalities to honor volunteerism and local commitment, Waste Management has announced a call for nominations for the second annual Community Involvement Awards. The awards recipients are selected by local elected leadership and will be recognized at a luncheon hosted by Waste Management on January 16th, 2005.
"Community building is an important part of good corporate citizenship, and is particularly important to Waste Management in the Los Angeles market area," said Steven D. Tucker, Vice President and Director of Operations for Los Angeles Market South. "Helping communities to recognize volunteers is a way of growing community involvement from the inside out."
City Councilmembers and mayors from the 29 LA County cities served by Waste Management have been asked to select one to two local volunteers for recognition. To nominate a volunteer, community groups are asked to submit the volunteer's name to their local city councilperson by January 10th.
